Year 1 Phonic Screening Check

In June Year 1 children complete a phonic screening check. Please click here to find out more, including how you can support your child at home.

Year 1 Phonic Screening Check Past Papers

In the summer term (June) all the Year 1 children undertake a phonics screening check to assess if they have reached the expected level in phonics. They are asked to read a mixture of real and 'alien' words. The reading of alien words checks that they are able to apply phonic skills and are not reliant on reading words on sight (from memory). The children are expected to read at least 32 of the 40 words accurately to meet the expected standard. The outcomes of the screening check will be shard with you as part of their end of year report.
